More for Scotland 2013

The Scottish Six Day is a great way to meet people of your age, including those from other nations - there are 52 runners in M10 alone for example.

Luke has struck up a chat with a Spanish boy in his age category and met up with a friend from last year's Welsh Creoso event. Our team has had a demonstration of free running from the lads from Moray Orienteers as well. How cool is that.

On the orienteering front LVO Juniors have has had a steady performance. On day 2 Rachel was doing really well on the 5th control (leading the field) but a slight misreading of the control numbers meant she slipped back. I've done it myself and it is an easy error to make so well done to her for sorting it out and carrying on.  Luke has made steady improvements and finished in the top half of his category on Day 3 and Ben has had a splendid competition on M10B, finishing it on his own at age 7. Finally Peter is is a very respectable 4th position after Day 3on the M14B. Today was a day off for the team

Monday 29 July 2013

The Scottish Six Day orienteering event is currently underway and there are four under 14 juniors from LVO there. This event is held every two years and is a top notch competition. In 2015 it will run alongside the World Championships so that is something for you all to aim for.

There are about 4000 runners taking part from all over the world and with 30 runners or more in each class it is hard to do really well. Ben, Peter, Rachel and Luke are our LVO juniors doing the best they can and putting all their recent training and experience to the test at the event. Ben and Peter ran their first races today in an international competition so well done to them. Luke and Rachel put in sound efforts on a tough opening day in the Scots Pine forest and amongst sand dunes. There is plenty more orienteering yet to be done and we will try to keep you all posted. Good luck team LVO!!!

England - Scafell Pike 978m
Remember to let me know if you get up to anything exciting this summer and we can get it on the blog as well.

Tollymore Festival

Outstanding in their filed
The juniors had a great weekend of orienteering in South Down over the 21 - 23 Jun.  It started on the Fri night with an urban race round Newcastle. The colour series race was held on Sat and was followed by junior training with a chance to practice a stat course based on compass work.

There followed a wet start on Sun when the juniors took part in a loop course through the forest and put their compass skills to the test. This was then followed by a club score course when the juniors got the chance to see how many controls they could get in 30 minutes. Tough going but all did very well!!

Of course there was the chance to camp on the Fri and Sat nights for those hardy people that did not mind the rain.  They got lucky and it stayed dry for the BBQ on Sat evening.

The game of rounders that followed was great fun for all. Lucky they could run given all the cream pie that seemed to be eaten!!
